Biological concrete with capacity to capture solar radiation
Researchers at DEC-UPC (Department of Construction Engineering) have developed a concrete favoring biological growth on the surface that can be used as a vertical garden.
From a environmental point of view, the new material can absorb and thus reduce CO2 in the atmosphere, thanks to the biological coating. Also, this concrete has capacity to capture solar radiation, which allows to regulate the thermal conductivity inside buildings depending on the temperature reached.
The project has received the Beyond Building Barcelona-Construmat award in the Innovative Project category.
